New Tuners have the wrong IF?
The new generation of wide-band and ultra-wideband tuners have output frequencies as high as 4 GHz and 6 GHz. These frequencies are often out of sync with adjacent and peripheral equipment. The IFAT-8000 has an input range up to 8 GHz, can process a BW of 1000 MHz (or lower) and can convert/translate the IF to a frequency and bandwidth that is manageable by downstream assets. As times and applications change, the IFAT can change with the new needs.
Old Tuners have the wrong IF?
Legacy Tuners often have IF frequencies or BW’s that no longer interface with today’s equipment, such as recorders and digitizers. The IFAT enables users to transform the RF interfaces of these older assets into something more useful, breathing new life into aging equipment.

The IFAT in depth
The IFAT is used to create an translation bridge between IF’s. The user experience is quite simple: tell it your input IF frequency and gain, choose a desired output frequency and level to drive into downstream equipment, and set the bandwidth needed for the translation (output bandwidth). The choices of frequency are universal and the IFAT can upconvert to a higher IF and downconvert to a lower IF. The exact input and output frequency ranges and be specified at the time of order and they can be dissimilar (you can choose an input range of say up to 8 GHz and output range of say up to 2 GHz).

The IFAT can be configured for a variety of installations. The standard 19″ Rack Mount is available as is a benchtop chassis which is roughly 2U High and 1/2 Rack space wide. Both chassis can be delivered with or without a front panel. In the instance where no front panel is wanted, complete command and control of the IFAT is accomplished via one of the communication ports, Ethernet or RS-232.
All functions of command and control of the IFAT are available to users either locally, via the front panel controls, or remotely, via Ethernet or RS-232. In the case of remote access, there is a variety of interface options. Over the ethernet port, users can find a browser-based GUI which renders on the user’s computer. Alternatively, a SCPI-based commandset can be used for communications to and from the IFAT. The SCPI commands can be used on either the Ethernet or RS-232 port. Front panel access is also available, through a complete keypad, LCD display and LED status/indicator lights.
