Syntonic Microwave’s DS-3000 Wideband Microwave Synthesizer is a state-of-the-art multi-loop synthesizer tuning continuously from 100 MHz to 20 GHz, in 1 Hz steps.
An RF Synthesizer for Demanding Environments
Phase noise and spurious performance is consistent with most demanding test equipment, receiver or carrier transmitter requirements. Tuning is accomplished via 4-wire SPI tuning or USB. The synthesizer includes an internal reference which will auto-lock to an external 10 MHz reference when present.

High stability, low noise in a compact package.
The DS-3000 is designed to provide everything you need in a compact synthesizer. That is, excellent phase noise, from near-in offsets out to the very wide offsets. The high-stability, low-noise, accurate system clock (particularly in the DS-3002 “Ultimate” model) provides two separate outputs for sync’ing and daisy-chaining, enabling users to serve both 100 MHz and 10 MHz to adjacent, downstream and upstream equipment.
There are two ports for inputting DC to the DS-3000: one on a 14 pin multi-connector and the other on a separate DC input. This enables the DS-3000 to be powered quickly for benchtop operations, which means that just a DC connection and USB cable gives the user complete control instantly.
Locking connector mitigates shock and vibration
Alternatively, the 14 pin multi-connector can be used to power and control the DS-3000. A unique feature of the connector is locking hardware, which makes the DS-3000 suitable for rugged environments where shock and vibration may be present.
High speed internal switching guarantees fast tuning
Fast tuning is accomplished in the design through high-speed internal switching and settling. Plus, users are given a LIST MODE for pre-loading up to 5000 list entries for enhanced switching/settling through known frequency steps. List management is handled either directly, through the customer interfaces, or via external file (Excel, CSV) for convenience.
The User Experience of the DS-3000 RF synthesizer has been optimized to match the interface environment expected of today’s microwave signal generators. This includes an executable GUI running on a PC or laptop, a SPI machine interface for embedded applications, and 100’s of nuances that have been baked into the design which make using the DS-3000 satisfying for the user.
PHASE NOISE: A Detailed View
The DS-3000 is offered with two different phase noise profiles, the DS-3001 “Standard” version and the DS-3002 “Ultimate” version. The performance of the DS-3002 is geared for the finest in phase noise performance, particularly in near-in phase noise, at 100 Hz and 1 kHz offsets from the carrier.
Improved frequency stability is another feature of the DS-3002 Ultimate version. Details of the performance and differences are shown below.
